What We Do

We are a Derbyshire based family owned funeral directors serving all Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire residents. We specialise in cremation only but we are quite unique and willing to do things a little differently. We think this better reflects what many people expect or hope for nowadays.

We offer Traditional and Contemporary Funerals which can be on any day of the week, including weekends. The Contemporary option to put it simply has a more modern styled approach, with an attended Full Service either religious or otherwise at the Crematorium of your choice. You can find out more about this on our Contemporary Funerals page.

Thankfully we don’t all wish for the same though, so please see our Traditional Funerals tab for this timeless and still very popular conventional option.

We were influenced by how technology has changed the way people choose and buy services generally and this inspired us to create our company specifically in a way which delivers far better value. From the outset we questioned everything a typical funeral director does and decided on what was important to keep and where resources were being unnecessarily wasted. What we already knew was that treating the deceased with great care and respect along with giving high quality customer service remains absolutely vital. What we also found however was that by focussing on a small range of the most popular options delivered in the most cost efficient way we were able to provide a first class standard of service for a remarkably low cost. Our research shows that what we charge is usually less than half the price of a conventional town centre funeral director. Please refer to our Prices page for more information on how our charges compare with other funeral directors in the area.

This is the service we offer in greater detail:

Provide first class customer service as detailed in our Customer Promise

Collect your loved one from a hospital or another funeral directors (other locations may incur an additional cost)

Respect and care for them up to and during the funeral

Visit you personally at a place of your choosing and discuss your wishes and requirements (unless requested otherwise)

Offer either our Contemporary or our Traditional Funeral with the appropriate vehicle in each case

Be attentive to your feelings and behave in a calm professional sensitive and compassionate way at all times

Attend to the funeral arrangements promptly in precise accordance with your instructions

Supply a good quality coffin lined and complete with all fittings

Prepare the body for the coffin in a respectful and dignified manner

Arrange flowers and place press notices in newspapers

Arrive at the Crematorium on time in our Funeral Vehicle or hearse

Conduct and oversee the funeral service offering support to immediate family members as appropriate

Send any donations (if required) to the relevant charity after the funeral

Deliver the ashes back to you personally if requested

Our fees for all of the above are £925 + disbursements

(Disbursements are sums which we pay on your behalf to third parties, for example doctors fees and the charge for cremation).

We usually request a part payment to approximately cover disbursements at the point when funeral arrangements are agreed, with the remaining balance payable before the funeral takes place.

In line with our ethical policies on honesty and transparency and in order to avoid any confusion, here are the services you might expect from a funeral director which we have chosen not to offer. These are generally about keeping our overheads low so that we can pass on the savings to you and also to simplify the range of options offered.

We do not have premises where you can visit us personally, but we offer home visits and can be contacted at any time by telephone, text or email.

We do not have any limousines (please refer to our About Us and FAQ pages).

We don’t usually supply the full number of pall bearers to carry the coffin (however there is a simple solution which is explained in our FAQ page).

Unfortunately we are unable to offer viewings in a Chapel Of Rest, but viewing at home can usually be arranged at additional cost so please talk to us if this is important to you.

There is no out of hours Call Out Service so removal of the body is either done during normal working hours or by your local funeral director (who will charge for this) and we would collect him or her from their premises soon afterwards.

We only advise on Orders Of Service but often a family member will be pleased to produce these personally.
